The main house on the property is a historic three-story home in Merrimac, near Lake Wisconsin. Constructed in 1908, this 3,000 square foot residence originally served as the private home of the "Smithy" from the Merrimack Blacksmith Company. This architectural gem features original hardwood floors, oak trim, doors, and stained-glass windows, providing a glimpse into its storied past. The home also boasts stunning views of Lake Wisconsin. Over the years, the house has served various roles, including a transformation in the 1980s into the Snuggle Inn and later, the Sandhill Inn, which was renowned for its fine dining and Victorian charm.
Adjacent to the main house is the blacksmith shop, built simultaneously with the home in 1908. This 800 square foot structure remains structurally sound and houses the original forge, drill press, and pulley system. In the early 1930s, a 900 square foot classroom addition was constructed to educate the children of Merrimac. This addition served the community's educational needs for nearly two decades. The history of this building reflects its integral role in the town's industrial and educational development.
